How to Collect Trees - with 99% chance of survival

Posted in Yamadori by Adam

Collecting trees is harder than you might think. As soon as a tree leaves the ground it gets stressed out and moisture loss quickly occurs. The key to collecting trees is to minimize this stress that it receives as little as possible. There are a number of different ways to do this.

Redwood as Bonsai (part 2)

I have come to a decision about my dawn redwood. I cut off about a foot or two of branches to bring it down to 6 foot tall. I think it might still be too big but I’m going to leave it as it is for now so I can think about it for a bit longer.

I made some fairly drastic cuts as all the growth was happening at the top and I want to encourage it further down the trunk. It’s looking pretty bare and thin at the moment.

People gave me some pretty funny looks as I walked through the garden centre, through the car park and then struggled to fit it in my car.
