Hidden Valley of Porth-Yr-Ogof

Posted in Full Size Trees by Adam

We went to Porth-Yr-Ogof yesterday to do a spot of caving.  For those who don’t know, it is a very large cave system in Wales which contains the largest unsupported cavern in Europe and 2 miles of tunnels.  The valley around the cave is like something out of Jurassic park.  It contains a lot of strange looking trees covered in moss.

Biggest Bonsai Tree on Earth

Posted in Yamadori by Adam

Today I acquired a gigantic wooden box from work previously used as a base for a dog kennel.  The dimensions are 36 inches by 30 inches!  Alright so there’s no bonsai in it at the moment but I’m going to have fun trying to find one big enough to fit it.  I told the guys at work it will be used for flowers, they would have thought I was crazy if I told them it would house a bonsai tree.

Difficulties Working With Evergreens

Posted in Tree choice by Adam

Evergreens to me such as junipers, cypress and Spruce seem to me to be harder to work on than leafy trees.  I don’t know why this is, but it is harder to work them out as to whether they will sprout back or not when cut.  Deciduous, leafy trees are my favorite to work with as you can easily see where they are growing from and where the nearest bud is.  There is a totally different method that needs to be implemented when working with needle trees.  I will be exploring the differences soon on the website.

Live Earth - Amazing Concert, Missed the Point

Posted in Interesting Websites by Adam

I watched live earth for quite a long time yesterday. There were some amazing bands on there. However the presenters seemed to miss the point of it all. Especially in the UK they seemed to be debating the fact over whether globabl warming was real or not and not how to stop it. There wasn’t even any videos encouraging us to turn off taps and light switches. I think the first encouragement video was about 10.00pm that I saw.

Live Earth

Posted in Weather & Seasons by Adam

Live Earth is happening this weekend. It is 10 different concerts all over the world which are rasing awareness of global warming and the fact that we need to stop it. It starts online tonight at 2.10am and lasts a whole 24hours! You can watch it at their website Live Earth or it’s on BBC television tommorow from 12.30pm to 4.00am It’s a fantastic cause and we should all support it 100%.

It’s our planet after all, we need to think of it’s future.

The coolest part of their website i’ve found is the Live Earth Pledge Tree which lets you draw a leaf for the tree if you make a pledge to help the planet. Please add your leaf today!
