Inspired to Create – (Part 3)

I made a few modifications to my hawthorn/blackthorn project today. It is coming along nicely, starting to bud and grow again. I noticed that instead of the trunks working their way together they are pushing each other apart. They would grow together eventually in years and years to come but I’m not prepared to wait that long! Also I want it to look more natural looking as if it were just one trunk.

What I have done is to wire the trunks together to hold them in place as they grow. Because I needed to do this quite tightly I was pretty worried about wire cuts. Since this is a bonsai which I seem to be trying lots of different methods on I decided on a new technique again for it. The plan was to find something which would not cut the tree and distribute the pressure evenly. I settled on 2 plastic tags which you find on your plant when you buy it from the garden center.

Plastic and Wire

Hopefully using this will keep it in place as they grow and not cut the trunks at all. I’ll probably keep it on until the winter and take it off just to check whats going on there.
