Newly Potted Hinoki Cypress

I got hold of a new pot today and had the difficult decision of which hinoki cypress to place in it. The three that I recently styled in New Cypress Specimens all need potting but for the moment I’ve only got the one pot. It is a 10 inch red dappled ceramic pot which I picked up at the garden centre which looks pretty neat.

I finally decided on the third cypress which is nice and straight and makes a nice change to the rest of my collection. Here is the tree before repotting:

After removing from the pot I found that the trunk extended into the soil a few inches getting very thick. I decided to remove the top roots so that I could expose this and a few roots from below. The root structure was very thick and hard to thin out but I finally managed it.

Here is the final result which I’m very pleased with:

The pot that is it now in is smaller than it looked in the shop so it will probably only have about 2 years in there before I’ll need a bigger one.
