But generally trees can live at least one person’s lifetime. There are cases of trees in Japan living for a thousand years given the right care and attention. There is a lot of expertise in Japan which other people around the world don’t have. It is therefore quite hard to pass your bonsai on to the next generation for them to look after. The problem being that there just isn’t enough interest in the UK from younger people.

But the bottom line is that you give your bonsai the care and attention it needs it can easily outlive you. As I’ve said many times before, it is much easier to care for an outdoor tree than an indoor.
