Redwood as Bonsai (part 1)
As you may have noticed from previous posts I am growing a redwood seedling to use as bonsai. The problem with growing trees from seed is that you are 65 when they finally look good. Today I bought a very large dawn redwood to use as bonsai. It’s got to be about 7-8 foot tall. People gave me some pretty funny looks as I walked through the garden centre, through the car park and then struggled to fit it in my car.
Could this be the tree big enough for my gigantic pot?! My first thought is to reduce the height of the tree by 2 or 3 foot. However, most of the growth is at the top of the tree so I would lose all of that for 2 years or so. Also it would leave a nasty looking chop mark which I’d have to carve in the future. I will have a think about it before I make any drastic decisions I think.
I got it for the bargain price of 15 pound, which I am very pleased about.
