Taking a Step Back

Posted on August 16th, 2007 in Weather & Seasons by Adam

Apologies for the lack of posts this last week, I’ve been away on holiday in Edinburgh checking out the Fringe.  It is about 400 miles north from where I live so the main difference that I noticed up there was the temperature dropping.  It seemed a lot colder up there.  With one or two days I had to wear jumpers, my winter down jacket and a warm hat.  When I am home I check out my bonsai nearly every day but being away for a week this was quite difficult!  Sometimes it’s nice to take a step back from your trees for a while to let them grow naturally.

The main thing I noticed when I returned was how much everything has grown.  The lawn has turned into a jungle into which no cat dare enter…  Theres not quite so much of a dramatic growth with my trees but there is definitely a visible difference.  My log continues to grow despite no actual reason why it should be growing.  Both my yamadori hawthorn and oak have grown some huge leaves in completely the wrong place.  I’m going to let them grow for the rest of the season so that they can gain strength ready for spring but I will give them a dramatic hair cut in the winter.

I’ll get a few pictures taken of them today and hope to post them all later on tonight to show whats happening.
